Skeleton Isopod
Porcellio bolivari
The skeleton isopod is a large, broad-bodied Porcellio from southeastern Spain, with records from caves as well as surface localities. Adults are yellowish, with darker triangular markings toward the rear of the body plates. Captive colonies need strong ventilation, dry retreats and a small area of consistently moist substrate. Decaying leaves and wood form the basic diet, with calcium and occasional protein supplements. Females brood their young underneath the body and release them alive.
