Porcellio echinatus
Porcellio echinatus
Porcellio echinatus is a strongly textured woodlouse recorded across parts of the Iberian Peninsula and northwestern Africa. Its raised surface bumps give it a rougher appearance than the common rough woodlouse. It is maintained in specialist colonies, where breeders report successful reproduction in ventilated enclosures with both moist and dry retreats. Leaf litter, decaying wood and calcium should remain available. Females shelter developing young in a brood pouch and release live young.
