Porcellio ombrionis
Porcellio ombrionis
Porcellio ombrionis is a Canary Islands woodlouse recorded from El Hierro and La Gomera. Its body has conspicuous raised granules, and the central lobe at the front of the head curves upward. Similar-looking animals have entered specialist culture under Canary Spikey trade names, often with a tentative identification. Secure colonies need leaf litter, sheltered moisture and ventilation. Females brood young beneath the body and release them alive. A trade name alone does not confirm the species.
