Ornate Isopod
Porcellio ornatus
The ornate isopod is a Spanish woodlouse kept for its gray and yellow coloration. The typical form has yellow spots toward the rear, while captive lines include animals with much more yellow. It is active and may climb bark or branches. Colonies need ample shelter, ventilation and mostly dry cover with one consistently moist retreat. Decaying leaves and wood, calcium and modest supplemental food support the culture. Females brood eggs and developing young in a pouch beneath the body, then release live offspring.
