Blessed Poison Dart Frog
Ranitomeya benedicta
The blessed poison frog comes from northeastern Peru and is kept by experienced dart-frog breeders. The Shucushuyacu form has a brilliant red head, black trunk and blue-netted legs. Humid planted terrariums provide leaf litter, hiding places, tiny insect prey and sheltered breeding surfaces. Females lay small egg clutches on protected horizontal surfaces, and males carry tadpoles to water. This form lacks the cream neck band of the Yurimaguas red-headed poison frog.
