Ranitomeya uakarii
Ranitomeya uakarii
This variable poison frog inhabits Amazonian forest and is kept by experienced dart-frog breeders. The Tahuayo form shown has red-orange back stripes, yellow side markings and dark limbs; other populations look different. Humid planted terrariums provide leaf litter, climbing cover, tiny insect prey and sheltered egg sites. It lays eggs, and males transport tadpoles to small pools. Its yellow lip stripe differs from the pink lip stripe of the spotted-belly poison frog.
