Red-Head Roach
Oxyhaloa deusta
The red-head roach is a small, fast-breeding species kept by specialist breeders. Adults are dark plum with reddish-orange heads, and their forewings bear long, curved hairs visible at close range. Disturbed adults release a strong defensive odor. Captive colonies need warm, humid air, good ventilation and plentiful hiding spaces above a relatively dry substrate. Females retain their egg cases and release live young. All stages climb, so a secure enclosure is essential.
