Red-Legged Millipede

Epibolus pulchripes

The red-legged millipede comes from Kenya and Tanzania, including coastal forests and grasslands. Its glossy black trunk contrasts with orange-red legs and antennae. It is kept in zoo collections and by invertebrate enthusiasts. Decaying hardwood and leaf litter provide food as well as cover, and a deep, moist, ventilated substrate allows burrowing and molting. Females lay eggs. Like other large millipedes, it can release defensive fluid when disturbed; avoid unnecessary handling and contact with the eyes.
