Red Skeleton Tarantula
Ephebopus rufescens
The red skeleton tarantula occurs in French Guiana and the Brazilian Amazon. Adult females are dark reddish brown with fine pale lengthwise leg stripes, rather than the bold ivory markings of Ephebopus murinus. They lack the yellow knee rings of the blue fang and emerald skeleton tarantulas.
Hobbyists keep this retreat-building spider singly with deep diggable substrate, bark cover, ventilation and water. Wild animals have been found in ground retreats and tree refuges. Avoid handling and defensive hairs. Females lay eggs in silk sacs.
