Redbelly Toad
Melanophryniscus stelzneri
The redbelly toad is a small Argentine amphibian maintained by specialist hobbyists. Adults have a dark body with pale yellow markings and red-orange areas underneath. Keepers provide ventilated enclosures with leaf litter, shelter, moist retreats, clean shallow water and tiny invertebrate prey. It lays eggs that develop into aquatic tadpoles. It is distinct from Klappenbach's red-bellied frog, which has often been sold as the bumblebee toad; those old trade labels are not reliable species identification.
