Reticulated Poison Frog
Ranitomeya reticulata
One of the smallest dart frogs, this species lives in northeastern Peru. The Iquitos form shown has a red back and black-patterned pale blue limbs; other forms retain stripes as adults. Specialist breeders use humid planted terrariums with leaf litter, tiny prey and protected egg sites. Females lay small clutches, and males carry tadpoles to water. Newly transformed froglets need especially small foods. Its solid red back differs from the black trunk of the blessed poison frog.
