Wild Type
A wild type reticulated python shows the natural pattern of Python reticulatus: a complex netlike arrangement of dark lines, gold or tan fields, and irregular markings that help the snake blend into forest and edge habitats. In captive breeding, wild type can mean a normal-looking animal with no visible morph traits, though it may still carry hidden genetics if its parents were not documented. The label should also be separated from locality or dwarf-size information.
Wild type retics are often the clearest reminder that the species itself is the commitment. They need experienced housing, escape-proof construction, stable heat, and handling practices suited to a large, alert constrictor. Breeders should be transparent about whether a normal-looking snake is from mainland, dwarf, super dwarf, or mixed locality lines. For keepers, a strong feeding response, manageable temperament, and realistic adult-size plan matter more than whether the animal lacks designer morph color.
