Rhinoceros Cockroach
Macropanesthia rhinoceros
The rhinoceros cockroach is a large, heavy, wingless burrowing roach from Australia. Its dark, strongly built body and powerful digging legs distinguish it from the long-winged giant forest roaches. Specialist keepers provide a deep burrowing substrate with moist retreats and abundant suitable dead hardwood leaves. It grows slowly and can live for several years. Females retain their egg cases and release live young. It is also known as the giant burrowing cockroach.
