Riobamba Marsupial Frog
Gastrotheca riobambae
This treefrog inhabits Ecuador's Andean valleys. Adults range from gray to green, often with broad dark back stripes. Experienced hobbyists provide cool planted terrariums, sturdy climbing perches, leaf cover and insect prey. It lays eggs: the male places fertilized eggs into the female's back pouch, where they hatch before tadpoles are released into water. The pouch is an egg-carrying structure, so this species is not classed as live-bearing.
