Rufous Brown Lemur
Eulemur rufus
This western Malagasy lemur has a gray-brown body. The pictured male has a brick-red crown, golden-red cheek beard and black muzzle with a dark stripe down the face. Zoos maintain social groups with climbing routes, sleeping retreats and feeding enrichment. Females bear live young. Eulemur rufus is distinct from the red-fronted lemur, E. rufifrons, despite their similar faces. ESA endangered status, CITES Appendix I and US primate-import restrictions apply.
