Saussure's Giant Sand Roach
Polyphaga saussurei
Saussure's giant sand roach is a large, slow-moving burrowing species maintained in specialist collections. Captive colonies consist of broad, wingless females that can disappear into loose substrate using their spiny legs. Keepers provide deep, relatively dry substrate, leaf cover and varied food. Females produce egg cases. Its size and flattened outline resemble other Polyphaga females, so appearance alone does not establish identity and stock history remains useful.
