Schwarz's Hooded Cockroach
Compsodes schwarzi
Schwarz's hooded cockroach is a tiny North American roach associated with ant nests, where it finds shelter and food scraps. Despite its slender appearance, it belongs to the same family as sand roaches. Specialist and small feeder colonies use loose debris and bark, a moisture gradient and varied food. Females lay egg cases. Adult males climb and fly, so enclosure openings must contain these very small animals. Captive breeding does not require keeping an ant colony.
