Australian Whistling Spider
Selenocosmia crassipes
The Australian whistling spider is a brown, burrowing tarantula recorded from Queensland. It can make a rasping sound by rubbing specialized hairs. The Australian Museum warns that pet-trade spiders sold under this name are often misidentified, so retain reliable stock and locality records. Experienced keepers provide a secure, ventilated enclosure with deep substrate, a sheltered retreat and drinking water. Avoid handling; bites can cause pain and illness. Females lay eggs in silk sacs.
