Shan Crocodile Newt
Tylototriton shanorum
The Shan crocodile newt is native to wetlands around highland lakes in Myanmar's Shan State. Adults have dark brown skin with subdued reddish-brown head, side-knob, limb and tail markings, and weak head ridges. Captive breeders have documented eggs and aquatic larvae, with eggs placed in or beside water. Experienced salamander keepers provide land cover and breeding water. Its dull markings distinguish it from the bright mandarin salamander. CITES Appendix II and US injurious-salamander restrictions apply.
