Blue Texel
Blue Texel is a colored Texel breed or variety developed from Texel-type meat sheep, especially in Dutch and British breeding circles. The blue appearance usually comes from black-and-white patterning and grayish shading rather than true blue fleece. It keeps much of the Texel emphasis on muscling, carcass quality, and compact strength, while adding a colored-sheep identity that may have separate registry rules depending on country.
As a meat breed, Blue Texel sheep are often used for terminal sires or pedigree flocks where conformation matters. Breeders should balance muscling with lambing ease, feet, mouths, fertility, and growth data. Color attracts buyers, but it should not outrank structural soundness or flock performance. Wool may interest natural-color fiber users, although carcass traits remain central. When buying breeding stock, ask whether the animals are registered Blue Texels, colored Texel derivatives, or commercial crosses with similar markings.
