Border Cheviot
The Border Cheviot is a Cheviot family sheep associated with the border country between Scotland and England. It is a hardy, alert, white-faced hill breed with a dense fleece, clean head, active movement, and a reputation for thriving on exposed upland pasture. Compared with larger lowland meat breeds, it is usually valued for soundness, thrift, mothering, and the ability to produce useful lambs under rougher grazing conditions.
Border Cheviot flocks are often judged by feet, teeth, udder structure, lambing ease, and how ewes perform away from high-input systems. The breed can contribute hardiness and maternal ability in purebred or crossbred hill programs, but selection should still reflect local weather, parasite challenge, and market goals. Buyers comparing lines should ask whether the flock is managed for hill work, showing, terminal crossing, or conservation of traditional type.
