Brecknock Hill Cheviot
The Brecknock Hill Cheviot is a Welsh hill sheep associated with the Brecon Beacons and related upland country. It is part of the Cheviot tradition but selected in Welsh hill conditions for hardiness, active grazing, and the ability to rear lambs on exposed pasture. The breed is typically white-faced and compact enough for rough ground while still producing a useful fleece and marketable lamb.
Good Brecknock Hill Cheviot flocks are built around functional ewes: sound mouths, tight feet, weatherproof fleece, and steady mothering. Rams may be used pure or in crossing programs where hill vigor and lamb survivability are desired. Buyers should look beyond the name and ask how the flock lambs, what grazing it runs on, and whether selection favors traditional hill type, show traits, or a more commercial ewe.
