Bündner Oberland
The Bündner Oberland sheep is a Swiss mountain breed from the Grisons region, associated with small-scale alpine farming and conservation of local landrace type. It is generally hardy, sure-footed, and variable enough to reflect older regional sheep rather than a narrowly standardized commercial breed. Color and fleece can vary, which is part of its appeal for heritage breeders and small flocks.
Management should respect the breed's mountain background: sound feet, efficient grazing, weather tolerance, and uncomplicated lambing matter more than maximum size. Bündner Oberland sheep may suit conservation grazing, local meat production, and heritage fiber use where buyers understand that uniformity is not the main point. Breeding groups should record flock origin and avoid losing rare family lines through convenience crossing.
