Cholistani
The Cholistani is a sheep breed from the Cholistan region of Pakistan, associated with arid pastoral conditions and local meat and wool use. It is generally viewed as a hardy regional breed rather than a high-input dairy or finewool type. Adaptation to heat, seasonal grazing, and limited feed resources is central to why the breed matters in its home environment.
Management questions for Cholistani sheep should focus on heat tolerance, walking ability, lamb survival, and performance under the forage actually available. In conservation or comparison records, it helps to note flock origin, color, body type, and whether sheep are kept in migratory, village, or farm-based systems. Producers outside the region should be cautious about assuming adaptation will transfer without attention to parasites, shelter, and local disease pressure.
