Coburger Fuchsschaf
The Coburger Fuchsschaf, or Coburg Fox Sheep, is a German sheep breed associated with Bavaria and nearby regions. Its name reflects the fox-red coloring seen especially in lambs, which often lightens into warm golden or reddish fleece as animals mature. It is a regional dual-purpose and heritage breed, appreciated for natural-colored wool as well as lambs and landscape-grazing use.
Flock management should protect the warm color character while still selecting for useful bodies, sound feet, fertility, and reliable lambing. Fiber producers may value the fleece shades, but staple quality and handle should be assessed animal by animal. Conservation flocks should note origin and registry status because rare regional breeds can lose identity quickly if color becomes the only selection goal. Balanced breeding keeps the sheep practical, not merely attractive.
