Comeback

Comeback sheep are an Australian and New Zealand type label for animals bred back toward Merino after crossing with longwool or meat breeds. The term does not always mean a single closed breed; it often describes a fleece and breeding direction, with Merino influence restored while keeping some size or hardiness from earlier crossbreeding. Comebacks are usually discussed in fine or medium wool contexts.

For practical use, the parentage and fleece measurements matter more than the label alone. Buyers should ask about micron, staple length, fleece weight, body size, and how many generations removed the animals are from the original cross. Comeback ewes can fit commercial wool flocks that want more constitution than very fine Merinos, but local bloodline history determines what the sheep actually offer.

Colors: Badgerface, Black, Blackbelly, Broken, Brown, Gray, Grey, Gulmoget, Katmoget, Moorit, Piebald, Red, Roan, Silver, Solid, Spotted, Tan, White, White with Black Points, White with Brown Points
