Dala Fur Sheep
Dala fur sheep, or Dala pälsfår, are a small Swedish native breed from Dalarna and part of the broader group of Swedish allmoge sheep. They are northern short-tailed sheep, often white but sometimes darker as lambs, with rams commonly horned and ewes usually polled or only lightly horned.
Their fleece and pelt history gives the breed much of its identity: the wool may include curly, finer, and rya-type fibers on the same animal. Today Dala fur sheep are mainly kept in conservation and small farm flocks, where hardy mothering, flock behavior, and preservation of old Swedish genetics matter as much as meat or wool income. Maintaining unrelated family lines is a larger concern than pushing the breed toward uniform commercial output, since the population is small and historically specific.
