Duben Sheep

Duben Sheep

Duben sheep are a Bulgarian local breed, also known in some sources as Dabenska or Dubenska sheep, associated with areas around Karlovo, Kazanlak, and the Balkan foothill region. They are generally compact, long-tailed, often polled sheep with white to reddish or darker fleece and head markings.

The breed is managed as a mixed-purpose farm sheep for milk, meat, and wool rather than as a single-output specialist. Local selection, studbook recording, and conservation support are important because regional Bulgarian breeds can be small in number, and their value lies in adaptation to grazing, winter housing, and village-scale production. A flock region and breeder association records can clarify how closely it fits the old local type, especially where names appear in translation.

Colors: Badgerface, Black, Blackbelly, Broken, Brown, Gray, Grey, Gulmoget, Katmoget, Moorit, Piebald, Red, Roan, Silver, Solid, Spotted, Tan, White, White with Black Points, White with Brown Points
