Fabrianese

Fabrianese

Fabrianese sheep are a modern Italian breed from the Marche region, named for Fabriano in the province of Ancona. They were developed in the twentieth century from local Apennine sheep crossed with Bergamasca influence, creating a large, white, polled sheep used for meat and milk.

The breed suits farms that want a substantial dual-purpose ewe rather than a small hill landrace or a single-purpose dairy sheep. Management centers on lamb growth, milk for lambs or local production, and enough body condition to handle Apennine foothill grazing, with flock recording helping maintain type and productivity. Udder quality, lambing ease, and feet should stay in the selection conversation alongside size, since large ewes still need to work economically.

Colors: Badgerface, Black, Blackbelly, Broken, Brown, Gray, Grey, Gulmoget, Katmoget, Moorit, Piebald, Red, Roan, Silver, Solid, Spotted, Tan, White, White with Black Points, White with Brown Points
