Gaddi

Gaddi sheep are a hill and mountain breed associated with Gaddi pastoralists in Himachal Pradesh and nearby Himalayan regions of northern India. They are generally kept in mobile or semi-mobile systems, with compact, hardy bodies suited to steep routes, seasonal grazing, and variable mountain weather. Their fleece is commonly used for coarse to medium wool, while surplus lambs and cull animals contribute meat.

Management is shaped by movement, forage access, and climate rather than by intensive housing. Flocks often need sure-footed animals, practical parasite control, and lambing schedules that fit transhumant grazing. For buyers, the useful questions are where the sheep were raised, whether they come from migratory or settled flocks, and what fleece quality the line actually produces.
