Greyface Dartmoor
Greyface Dartmoor is a British breed from the Dartmoor area of southwest England, combining hill hardiness with longwool character. It is a sturdy white sheep with a gray or mottled face and a heavy fleece, traditionally suited to exposed moorland and rougher grazing. The breed sits closer to a regional hill and wool sheep than to a specialized dairy or terminal-sire type.
For keepers, Greyface Dartmoors call for attention to fleece weight, foot soundness, and condition through wet weather. Their wool can be useful for craft and heritage markets, while lambs suit slower, grass-based systems. Conservation-minded breeders should select for the breed's recognizable face, frame, and moorland usefulness without losing maternal function.
