Guirra

Guirra

Guirra is a Spanish sheep breed from eastern Spain, especially the Valencian region, and is also associated with the name Roja Levantina. It is a red or reddish-brown local breed used mainly for meat, with some traditional milk use in certain systems. The color is part of its identity, but the breed is more than a color label because it carries regional ancestry and adaptation.

Guirra sheep are usually managed as a hardy Mediterranean breed, with attention to heat, dry forage, and lamb production. Conservation flocks may focus on maintaining the red coat and local bloodlines while still selecting for fertility and sound udders. Anyone buying breeding animals should check flock origin, breed recognition, and whether the animals are pure Guirra or red crossbreds.
