Gute
Gute sheep are a Swedish primitive breed from Gotland, distinct from the more fleece-selected modern Gotland sheep. They are often horned in both sexes, hardy, alert, and variable in natural colors. The breed preserves older island sheep traits, including a more primitive body type and a fleece that may include both outer and undercoat qualities.
Gute flocks are often kept for conservation, specialty wool, pelts, meat, and rough grazing. They need fencing and handling suited to active, less heavily domesticated sheep, along with selection for sound horns, feet, lambing, and temperament. Buyers should not assume all gray Swedish sheep are Gute; preservation status and flock documentation matter when breed identity is important.
