Jezersko–Solčava Sheep
Jezersko-Solcava sheep are a Slovenian Alpine breed from the Jezersko and Solcava areas. They are typically white sheep with dark markings around the eyes or face, and they are valued for hardiness, fertility, and use in mountain farming. The breed is mainly a meat and maternal sheep rather than a specialized dairy type, though local farm use can be mixed. Regional origin is an important part of the identity.
In practical flocks, Jezersko-Solcava sheep need strong feet, good mothering, and the ability to graze sloping pasture through a short mountain season. Breeders often care about preserving recognizable markings and local ancestry, but productive ewes still matter most. Buyers should ask about lambing rate, flock health, and whether animals come from maintained Alpine lines. Management should include shelter during harsh weather, foot care on wet ground, and breeding choices that protect both regional type and farm usefulness.
