Juraschaf
Juraschaf, or Swiss Jura sheep, are dark Swiss meat sheep associated with the Jura region and surrounding uplands. They are often black to brown, medium to large, and selected for lamb production under pasture-based conditions. The breed is not a color label alone; it carries a recognized regional meat-sheep identity in Swiss and neighboring breeding contexts.
Juraschaf flocks are managed for fertility, lamb growth, sound feet, and ewe longevity. Their dark fleece may have limited commodity value, but it can interest specialty fiber users. Buyers should check whether animals are registered or from known meat lines, and should match the breed's frame and feed needs to local pasture rather than assuming all mountain sheep are low-maintenance.
