Karacabey Merino
Karacabey Merino is a Turkish Merino-derived sheep developed around the Karacabey breeding farm for improved wool and meat production. It combines fine-wool influence with adaptation to Turkish farming conditions, making it more specialized than many local fat-tailed breeds but still expected to function in regional systems. The breed is usually white and wool-oriented, with lamb production also important to its practical value.
Flock management should support both fleece and body condition. Nutrition, shearing schedule, parasite control, sound feet, and selection for lamb survival all affect whether the breed performs as intended. Buyers should ask about fleece measurements, lamb growth, mature ewe size, source flock, and whether the animals are maintained as Karacabey Merino rather than general Merino-cross sheep.
