Langhe

Langhe

Langhe sheep are an Italian dairy breed from the Langhe hills of Piedmont. They are associated with local milk production and traditional cheeses, and are better understood as a regional dairy sheep than as a meat-first or wool-first breed. Their history is tied to hill farms where milk, lambs, and adaptation to local forage all mattered.

Modern Langhe management focuses on udder quality, milk yield, lamb rearing, and maintaining enough hardiness for hilly pasture. Flocks may be small, so conservation and careful breeding choices are important. Buyers should ask about milk records, disease status, regional origin, and whether the animals come from active dairy selection or from a broader heritage flock.

Colors: Badgerface, Black, Blackbelly, Broken, Brown, Gray, Grey, Gulmoget, Katmoget, Moorit, Piebald, Red, Roan, Silver, Solid, Spotted, Tan, White, White with Black Points, White with Brown Points
