Lati

Lati is a fat-tailed sheep breed of Pakistan's Salt Range country, especially the hill districts of Punjab such as Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Mianwali, and Sargodha. It is a mutton-and-wool breed rather than a dairy or fine-fleece sheep. Typical animals are medium sized, with a white body, tan or tan-spotted head, small ears, and a hanging fat tail suited to seasonal grazing country.

The breed belongs in dryland and foothill flock management, where animals must walk, forage, and hold condition through variable feed. Its wool is useful but not a luxury fiber; the stronger value is in hardy local lamb production, moderate wool harvest, and adaptation to the Salt Range environment. Buyers should look at feet, teeth, tail condition, and the flock's source district, because regional names in South Asian sheep can cover animals selected more by working usefulness than by a narrow visual standard.
