Merinofleischschaf
Merinofleischschaf is the German Mutton Merino, a Merino-derived sheep selected for meat as well as wool. It belongs to the German Merino family, distinct from Merinolandschaf and Merino longwool. The breed developed from German Merino stock with additional meat-breed influence, producing a white, productive sheep suited to agricultural and sometimes drier production areas where lamb growth and fleece both mattered.
For breeders, the name signals a meat Merino rather than a fine-wool specialist. Rams may be used to add growth, carcass shape, and maternal value while keeping wool quality within a Merino-influenced range. Flock records should track lambing, growth, mature size, fleece, and adaptation, because the best animals earn their keep through combined performance. The breed also sits behind some later meat-wool Merino developments outside Germany, so clear naming helps avoid confusing it with South African Meat Merino or broader Merino crossbreds.
