Qinghai Semifinewool
Qinghai Semifinewool is a Chinese sheep breed associated with the Qinghai plateau and high-altitude pastoral systems. It is often described as a wool-and-meat breed, selected to produce a semifine fleece while coping with cold, elevation, and seasonal grazing. The label is sometimes linked with Qinghai plateau half-fine wool sheep, reflecting both its geography and its place between coarse local sheep and finer wool breeds.
Management should respect the environment that shaped the breed. Animals selected on the plateau need strong feet, cold tolerance, grazing ability, and enough body reserve to handle harsh winters as well as fleece traits. Wool records should include fineness, staple, and clean yield, while meat production depends on lamb survival and growth under local forage conditions. Outside its home region, buyers should be cautious: a sheep adapted to Qinghai may not perform the same way in humid lowlands or highly intensive systems.
