Unknown Breed
Unknown breed is a management label for a domestic sheep, Ovis aries, whose ancestry has not been verified. The animal may be a commercial cross, a local landrace mix, an unregistered purebred, or a rescue sheep with no reliable background. Color, horns, tail type, fleece texture, and body shape can suggest possible influences, but appearance alone rarely proves a breed.
Care should be based on what the sheep is in front of you. A wool sheep needs shearing and flystrike prevention; a hair sheep may shed but still needs parasite control, minerals, hoof care, and secure fencing. For buyers, rescues, and small farms, age, health history, temperament, lambing record, and body condition are usually more useful than a guessed breed name. Quarantine new arrivals and keep simple records so future breeding or placement decisions are easier.
