Waziri
Waziri is a sheep breed name from the northwestern Pakistan and Afghanistan border region, commonly grouped among Pakistan's fat-tailed sheep. It is associated with dry upland and tribal pastoral settings where sheep are kept for meat, coarse wool, and household livestock value. Compared with Punjab thin-tailed breeds such as Thalli, Waziri sheep are better understood through their fat-tail background and adaptation to harsher, more mobile management.
A Waziri flock should be judged by hardiness, lamb survival, walking ability, and the capacity to hold condition through seasonal feed changes. Wool is generally practical rather than fine, and meat value is often more important than fleece marketing. Because public breed information is limited, buyers should ask about home tract, flock source, and whether animals are pure Waziri or regional crossbreds. Local adaptation is the main asset to protect.
