Weiße Gehörnte Heidschnucke
Weiße Gehörnte Heidschnucke is the white horned heath sheep of northern Germany, part of the Heidschnucke group of short-tailed moorland sheep. Unlike the white hornless Moorschnucke, this type carries horns and belongs to the hardy heathland tradition used on poor grazing, heather, sandy soils, and conservation landscapes. The white coat and horned head distinguish it from the better-known gray horned Heidschnucke.
Management is usually extensive, with value placed on landscape grazing, tough feet, modest feed needs, and meat from slow-grown animals. The fleece is coarse and mixed, better suited to robust textile uses than fine yarn. Breeders should keep horn shape, breed type, and hardiness in balance, especially because conservation flocks can be small. The breed fits owners who need working grazing animals for lean land, not sheep selected for intensive lamb output.
