Yoroo
Yoroo is a lesser-known Mongolian sheep breed or strain associated with the northern forest-steppe and river valley grazing areas often rendered as Yeröö or Yoroo. It belongs to the broader world of hardy Mongolian domestic sheep, but the name is used for a more localized population selected for conditions that include cold winters, open range grazing, and seasonal movement. Production emphasis is generally meat and wool, with animals expected to maintain themselves on native pasture for much of the year.
In practical flock management, Yoroo sheep are treated as range animals rather than intensive housed sheep. Winter feed reserves, shelter from severe storms, and careful timing of lambing are important in northern Mongolia's climate. Wool quality is typically considered in local or regional terms, so buyers should not assume it matches fine-wool breeds developed for apparel fiber. Because the breed is not widely traded internationally, conservation and breeding decisions depend on accurate locality information and avoiding dilution through unplanned crossing.
