Zeeland Milk
Zeeland Milk refers to the Zeeland branch of the Dutch Friesian-Zeeland dairy sheep tradition, also connected with the Melkschaap or milk sheep of the North Sea coast. It is a large white dairy sheep with a long body, long tail, and strong milking reputation. Although closely related to Friesian dairy sheep, Zeeland lines are maintained through their own regional identity, reflecting centuries of use for milk, meat, and wool in damp coastal country.
A Zeeland Milk flock is managed first as a dairy flock: udder shape, milk volume, fertility, lamb rearing, and calm handling all matter. The breed can be demanding if nutrition, minerals, housing hygiene, and milking routines are poor. It suits serious sheep-dairy systems and careful small dairies more than casual pasture-only ownership. Buyers should ask whether the flock is recorded as Zeeland, Friesian, or Friesian-Zeeland, since registry language may vary.
