Zelazna
Zelazna, or Żelaźnieńska, is a Polish sheep developed at Warsaw Agricultural University from Polish Merino, Leicester Longwool, and Łowicz sheep. It belongs to the Polish Lowland group and represents a planned local breeding effort rather than an ancient mountain landrace. The breed combines wool and meat interests, with selection aimed at a useful lowland ewe suited to central Polish farm conditions.
Practical Zelazna management should focus on maternal performance, lamb growth, fleece quality, and maintaining the local type within conservation or national breeding programs. Because it is not widely known outside Poland, documentation is important when animals or semen are described under this name. The breed is most relevant to keepers interested in Polish genetic resources, lowland production history, and balanced wool-meat sheep rather than extreme dairy or terminal-sire specialization.
