Shortwing Gem Cockroach
Aglaopteryx gemma
The shortwing gem cockroach is a small, fast-moving roach from the far southeastern United States and nearby Caribbean region. It uses tree-associated shelters in habitats including pine hammocks and coastal woodland. Color varies among populations, and captive stock includes a Key Largo mangrove locality. Specialist colonies need ventilated shelters and carefully controlled moisture around the egg cases. Females lay oothecae whose hatching time varies with temperature and moisture.
