Singapore Blue Tarantula
Omothymus violaceopes
The Singapore blue tarantula is a large tree-dwelling spider from Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore. Adult females have blue-purple legs and a pale olive to silvery carapace; long orange-tinted hairs soften the dark abdomen. Older labels use Lampropelma violaceopes. Experienced hobbyists provide a secure, well-ventilated vertical enclosure with bark retreats, climbing surfaces and water. This fast spider is best observed without handling. Females lay eggs and protect them in a silk sac.
