Skunk Cockroach
Eurycotis floridana
The skunk cockroach, also called the Florida woods cockroach, is a large, dark, flightless roach from the southeastern United States. Its defensive secretion gives it its common name. Specialist colonies use humid retreats for egg laying alongside drier climbing and feeding areas, with good ventilation and varied food. Females produce large egg cases that can yield many young. Adults and nymphs climb, and the young can defeat simple barriers, so a fitted lid is important.
