Sky-Blue Poison Frog
Hyloxalus azureiventris
This poison frog lives in northeastern Peru and is bred by specialist hobbyists. Its black back has yellow side stripes joining at the snout; green-patterned legs and a blue-patterned underside explain its common name. Breeders use humid planted terrariums with ground cover, supplemented small insects and water for larvae. Adults can be territorial, so breeding pairs need space. It lays eggs on protected surfaces, and males guard them and carry the tadpoles to water.
